This lovely city once known as Lebanon was eventually renamed for the apple trees placed on each family lot during the 1960’s. Located about 20 minutes south of downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul, Apple Valley is well situated. Over 40,000 people live there, and since the mid-1960’s, over 11,000 homes have been built here and the building continues. It is a relatively small business and residential community of only 17.5 square miles. There are many parks to enjoy inside the city, or you can visit the Minnesota Zoo and IMAX theatre, or a host of many other attractions.

Where Cedar Av. crosses County Rd. 42 (two of the main streets in the city), a huge shopping area has been built. Among the stores included are: two supermarkets, Cub and Rainbow; a big Target "Greatland" store; Menard's; Frank's Nursery; a Carmike Cineplex of 16 theaters; lots of restaurants and more. For more serious, all-day shopping, the Mall of America is only about 15 minutes away on Highway 77.

The average price of Apple Valley Homes for sale is about $250,000. However, they can be anywhere between $175,000 and upwards of $2 million. Parks and Recreation

The Minnesota Zoo

Located 10 minutes south of the Mall of America off Highway 38, The Minnesota Zoo is one of the state's most well known attractions. The zoo is open every day of the year except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas.

This state-of-the-art facility contains the largest collection of animals in Minnesota and attracts approximately 1.2 million visitors each year. The zoo was built in 1978 in a suburbanizing rural area and thus had more area to house exhibits, and was one of the first to organize its animals by their living environment as opposed to organizing animals according to species. In addition to the impressive animal exhibits, the Zoo also offers recreational activities such as the Imax Theater, cross country skiing, and nationally-touring concerts in its outdoor theater. Valleywood Golf Course

Apple Valley is host to many golf courses. Valleywood hosts approximately 40,000 rounds of golf per season. Services available include a driving range, Pro Shop, cart rental, snack bar and golf lessons.

Regional Parks

Lebanon Hills Regional Park is one of the largest parks in the area. With over 2000 acres to explore, visitors can enjoy the park's many lakes, marshes, woodlands and meadows.

Outdoor activities include: summer and winter hiking, cross country skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, snowmobiling and more. There are also fire pits, picnic shelters and a warming house at Schulze Lake Beach.

Apple Valley residents enjoy an extensive park program which consists of numerous parks, community centers, sports arenas and athletic complexes. With 60 miles of trails connecting the area's many parks, most neighborhoods are located no further than a half mile from a park.

School Information

Apple Valley belongs in the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District #196. More than 26,000 students are enrolled in the districts 18 elementary, five middle and three high schools, as well as the alternative learning center: a place which offers students who have dropped out of high school the opportunity to earn a diploma. Apple Valley students may also enroll in the School of Environmental Studies located at the Minnesota Zoo.
